The Madeira islands are Portugal’s best kept secret, and offer breathtaking natural settings, crystal-clear waters, centuries-old traditions, and colorful botanical gardens. The islands are an archipelago where two thirds are protected and where the largest Laurisilva forest can be found. Madeira is a pearl in the midst of the Atlantic ocean; an island of eternal spring offering a captivating contrast of colors between the lush green and the black of the volcanic rocks.

This island is photographer’s wonderland where one can capture some truly dramatic scenes – every turn reveals a new grand vista, and every path leads to something new to be discovered. On a typical day, we start to photograph early in the morning to catch the best light at sunrise and then return to our hotel for breakfast. We allow plenty of time for relaxation, or post processings sessions and then explore more in the early afternoon and take pictures in the warm evening light during sunset and the blue hour. When we travel to further destinations we will adjust our schedule accordingly and may stay out the entire day while having lunch out. We usually enjoy group dinners at night at local restaurants. Since we are a small-group tour company, we can provide individual attention and flexibility to all our guests.

During this 5-day workshop you will learn different techniques to photograph stunning sea & landscapes, fabulous waterfalls, impressive rugged coastlines, lush magical forests, and vibrant flowers and return home with some outstanding images. Our guidance will cover composition, shutter speeds, working with filters, apertures, and understanding histograms. We will have optional post-processing sessions to review images and talk about post processing techniques.
All levels of of photographers are welcome; whether you are a hobby enthusiast, an cell-phone shooter, or a seasoned professional looking for new photographic opportunities.

Relatively easy but good footwear needed. Most locations and viewpoints are close to where we will be parked. There may be some walking on uneven terrain which could be wet and muddy, and some locations are hilly. Good sturdy, water resistant boots are advised.

There are daily flights from Lisbon to Funchal and also from other airports throughout Europe.

You can get information and public transport options from Madeira Airport here.

The weather can be quite mild this time of year, but the mornings and evenings cold, so bring warm clothes. Ideally layers that you can remove or put on as we’ll be shooting before sunrise and after sunset, in the dark, when it will be colder. Bring wet weather gear and a raincover for your camera equipment.
