Join Paulo Silva and Claudia Daniels to capture one of the most photogenic coastlines and towns in Europe. The West Coast of Portugal from Lisbon to Porto is lush with greenery and wild fauna amidst steep rugged cliff faces and sea stacks which face the Atlantic ocean. This dramatic coastline is also home to quaint fishing villages and historic towns with pristine beaches nestled in between protected nature reserves.

Our 11 Day, 10 Night Photography Tour will start in Lisbon, a fascinating destination for photographers because of its stunning architecture, vibrant street life, and picturesque city and landscapes. Our hotel, where we will spend 3 nights,  is located directly in the center of town with easy access to our photography locations, sights, and restaurants. During our time in Lisbon we will photograph the famous Vasco da Gama bridge at sunrise,, take pictures of the Tower of Saint Vincent (a 16th century fortification that served as an embarkation point for Portuguese explorers), and guide you to an array of well-known and “secret” photography spots throughout this mesmerizing city.

From Lisbon we will continue our journey to the Algarve, a coastline with some of the most incredible rugged cliff formations, hidden coves, and blue water sceneries in all of the Iberian Peninsula. Imagine a place where golden cliffs meet azure waters, where cozy beaches give way to charming old towns, and every turn reveals a new, breathtaking vista – much of the Algarve remains relatively undiscovered and unspoiled. We will spend the next three nights in Lagos, a charming and centrally located town with narrow cobblestone streets and quaint old churches.

As we continue further north, we will encounter Aveiro, a vibrant city set along the coastal lagoon Ria de Aveiro. Aveiro is also known as the Venice of Portugal with its scenic waterways and colorful canal boats. The city itself provides many great photographic opportunities with its art nouveau buildings and ornate tile facades. Aveiro and its lagoon is the perfect place to get some unique images to add to your portfolio. Close to Aveiro is Costa Nova Beach located right on the Atlantic Ocean. This captivating area is famous for its vertical or horizontal striped cottages that line beach. They originally were used as storages space for local fishermen but have now been converted to charming living areas.

Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, lies on the banks of the Douro River and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The most characteristic views of the city, including the Ribeira district with its ancient houses, and the famous Dom Luis steel bridge can be seen from the low lying shores of the Douro. This active harbor creates many photographic possibilities which we will capture at sunrise and sunset. Part of our 3 night stay in Porto encompasses long-exposure seascape shots at the neighboring coastal areas.

During this 11 day fabulous photographic journey, we will seek out interesting nooks and crannies as well as the better known and more iconic sites. Our aim is to give you ample opportunity to capture the history and beauty of this amazing country. Our photography guide Paulo is from Portugal, speaks the language, and is looking forward to showing you the beauty of his homeland. During our workshop will provide photographic guidance, demonstrate the use of filters, talk about composition, shutter speeds, apertures,  histograms and more. All levels of photographers are welcome, whether you are a hobby enthusiast, a cell-phone shooter, or a seasoned professional looking for new photographic opportunities.

Relatively easy but good footwear needed. Most locations and viewpoints are close to where we will be parked. There may be some walking on uneven terrain which could be wet and muddy, and some locations are hilly. Good sturdy, water resistant boots are advised.

Best place to fly to is Lisbon Airport. If coming from the UK or within Europe, you can find flights at Easyjet or Wizz Air or Ryanair.

You can get information and public transport options to and from Lisbon Airport here:

The weather can be quite cold this time of year, and the mornings and evenings colder, so warm clothes. Ideally layers that you can remove or put on as we’ll be shooting before sunrise and after sunset, in the dark, when it will be colder. Bring wet weather gear and a raincover for your camera equipment.
