The improvement of smartphone cameras has drastically changed travel photography -and the phone camera is now globally used by beginner and professional photographers alike. It is a great and convenient tool for sharing our pictures with the rest of the world in realtime; it is small in size, portable, more discreet and less intimidating than a large camera.

During this 6 day, 5 night guided smartphone photography tour we will take you on a journey through the picturesque Bavarian mountain region, where we will be greeted by baroque churches, emerald blue lakes, waterfalls, ancient castles, and sparkling Christmas markets. This tour combines travel, photography and culture. We will learn and experience local customs, enjoy delicious meals, and most of all have fun in a relaxed and casual atmosphere.

Our tour will start at the Hilton hotel inside the Munich airport with a late afternoon meet and greet session. After breakfast the following morning, we will start our journey to Berchtesgaden, a picturesque town in the Bavarian Alps close to the Austrian border. This will be our home base for the next two nights. Among cascading waterfalls, impressive gorges, and spectacular alpine villages, we will visit the Berchtesgaden Christmas market in the historic center of town. This festive season is characterized by rich traditions and customs that have been passed on from many generations. At the Christmas Market stalls, you can find original Berchtesgaden Christmas tree decorations that have been crafted according to the folk art traditions that have existed in the region for centuries. The decorated houses and market stalls create a unique ambiance for the ‘Christkindlmarkt’. Framed by the royal castle, the local brass ensemble performs and fills the air with seasonal music. A live nativity scene, horse-drawn carriage rides, local wood crafts and Christmas carol singers create an atmosphere that will fill you with joy and peace.

Our  journey will continue to the heart of Bavaria to Füssen, where we will stay the next two nights. During our stay we will explore one of Germany’s natural monuments, the Partnach Gorge where 2,300 feet of breath taking waterfalls and caves provide a rare look into Germany’s geological past. We will photograph the fairy tale Schloss Neuschwanstein, a monument to medieval culture and kingship commenced by the Bavarian King Ludwig II in 1869. Twinkling lights, Allgäu arts and crafts, the delicious fragrance of regional delicacies and hot mulled wine: the Füssen Christmas Market takes place at the festively illuminated monastery courtyard of St Mang, at the heart of Füssen‘s historical town center. Wintertime in this scenic region means magnificently fresh air and a crystal-clear view of the snow-covered mountains. Finally, on December 8th, we will return to the Munich airport where we will say goodbye until next time!

This tour is geared towards people who like to take pictures with their smart phone and would like to improve their skills; although you are welcome to bring your regular camera along! We will offer tips and tricks how to take fabulous still images and videos with your phone. This will be a fun, informative workshop while exploring the creative features built right into our phones, aftermarket lenses and filters, and different apps to use for turning our phone pictures into works of art. We will illustrate composition rules, talk about lighting options, and correct exposures. The demonstration will be on an iPhone, but the concepts covered will be applicable to any smartphone. You will return from this trip taking better pictures with your phone camera than you ever thought possible, and having more fun doing it!
