Morocco is a photographer’s dream with its golden Sahara dunes, bustling spice markets, stunning remote High Atlas mountains, charming Berber villages, and colorful street life scenes. During our 10-Day tour we will photograph the fabulous architecture in Marrakesh, Casablanca, and Fez, explore the serene beauty of the desert and the mountain range, and be mesmerized by the beauty of Morocco’s “Blue City” Chefchaouen. We will indulge in the flavorful Moroccan cuisine, and learn about the rich history and culture of this fascinating country. During our journey we will stay in a mix of modern hotels and for a more authentic experience in traditional Riads, beautiful guesthouses centered around tranquil courtyards.
In addition to guiding you to the best sights, we offer photographic tuition; you will learn different techniques to take your best shots and return home with some outstanding images. Tuition will cover composition, shutter speeds, working with filters, apertures, and understanding histograms. We will include post-processing sessions to review your images. All levels of photography are welcome; whether you are a hobby enthusiast, a smart phone shooter, or a seasoned professional looking for new photographic opportunities.
Marrakesh: Marrakesh, one of Morocco’s most iconic cities, offers a rich blend of history, culture, architecture, and vibrant street life. The Medina (Old City) is the historic heart of Marrakesh, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. A labyrinth of narrow, winding streets filled with souks (markets), traditional riads, and stunning architecture. The Medina is where you’ll find everything from handwoven carpets to spices and jewelry, all within a maze of alleyways that feel both timeless and alive with activity.
Ouarzazate: Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Sahara,” is a fascinating city in southern Morocco, known for its dramatic landscapes, historical sites, and its significance in the film industry. On our way we will visit Air Benhaddou, a Unesco World Heritage site. This ancient fortified village (ksar) is one of the most famous sites in Morocco. It’s a striking example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture, and its picturesque setting has made it a popular filming location for movies and TV series, including Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia. We will explore the narrow alleys and climb to the top for a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding area.
Merzouga and Erg Chebbi Dunes: Merzouga is a small village located on the edge of the Sahara Desert in southeastern Morocco. It’s one of the most popular gateways to explore the vast dunes of the Erg Chebbi, a massive sand dune field that stretches across the horizon. These towering, golden dunes rise up to 150 meters (500 feet) high and stretch for over 30 kilometers. The dunes are known for offering some of the most spectacular sunset and sunrise views in the world. We can climb to the top of one of the smaller dunes and witness the stunning changing colors of the desert sands. We will spend two nights in a luxury desert camp. The starlit skies and the serene atmosphere of the desert will make this stay a truly unforgettable experience.
Fez: Fez is a fascinating and historically rich city, known for its lively culture, stunning architecture, and deep connection to Islamic traditions. The Old Medina of Fez is one of the largest and most well-preserved medieval Islamic cities in the world. During our stay in Fez we will visit and photograph the tanneries, where leather is dyed in large vats using natural dyes. The sight of workers immersing leather into bright, colorful dyes is both fascinating and unique. It’s an unforgettable experience that gives insight into the ancient craft of leatherworking.
Chefchaouen: Chefchaouen, known as the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco, is a beautiful and vibrant city nestled in the Rif Mountains. Its unique blue-painted buildings, narrow alleyways, and stunning landscapes make it one of the most picturesque places in Morocco. The entire Medina is a maze of blue-painted streets and buildings. Strolling through this labyrinth is one of the main highlights of Chefchaouen. The blue hues are said to represent the sky and heaven, creating a calming atmosphere.
Casablanca: Casablanca, Morocco’s bustling economic and cultural hub, offers a mix of modernity, history, and architectural splendor. We will photograph one of the largest mosques in the world – the Hassan II Mosque is an iconic symbol of Casablanca. Its impressive minaret, standing at 210 meters, is the tallest in the world. The mosque is beautifully located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, with stunning views of the sea. Rick’s Café is a replica of the fictional café from the classic movie Casablanca. This is more of a tourist experience than a historical site, but it offers a nostalgic atmosphere for movie buffs.
