Difficulty: Moderate- longer walks required in Venice, some elevation changes in the Dolomites but overall very easy without long strenuous hikes.

This photography workshop is every landscape, city and nature photographer’s dream and combines two iconic areas: Venice and the Dolomites. During this 8 day, 7 night tour we will photograph amazing scenery including rugged, snow capped mountain ranges, stunning glaciers, crystal clear blue lakes, charming  villages, picturesque churches and farmhouses, as well as the beauty of Venice’s canals, historic buildings and lagoons.  
We will spend the first two nights in scenic Venice, where we will start our journey with an informal meet and greet in the afternoon, followed by a sunset, blue hour and night shoot. The next morning we will rise early and make our way to the beautiful island of Burano. This island with its colorful houses is located within the lagoon of Venice and is famous for its lacemaking and curious leaning bell tower. A legend is told that the houses were painted with bright and cheerful colors so that the sailors could spot them easily on foggy days. After our morning photography session, we will return to our hotel, have some time for relaxation, image reviews and  post-processing lessons. After lunch we will explore more of Venice’s stunning beauty while photographing iconic locations, canals, and picturesque gondolas. The evening will end with a sunset and blue-hour shot. Our groups usually decide to have dinners together and we select local restaurants to enjoy a typical meal. Our last morning in Venice will start with a sunrise shoot, followed by breakfast in the hotel. After breakfast we will check-out and take a water bus to Marco Polo airport, where we will pick up our car. 
 
Our journey will continue by car to our first destination in the Dolomites close to the Fannes-Senes-Braies Nature Park and one of Italy’s most beautiful lakes, Lago di Braies. We will spend the next 3 nights in this fabulous mountain location and take pictures of deep blue-green waters and rugged mountain cliffs at the best light of the day. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo are three distinctive battlement like peaks- they are one of the best known mountain groups in the Alps. Until 1919 the peaks formed part of the border between Italy and Austria-Hungary. Now they lie on the border between the Italian provinces of South Tyrol and Belluno and still are a part of the linguistic boundary between German-speaking and Italian-speaking majorities.
 
From there we will travel to our next location, where we will spend our last 2 nights: Europe’s largest mountain plateau- Alpe di Suisi. nspired by one of the most awe-inspiring mountain landscapes on earth, our 5-star hotel awaits. The hotel Urthaler, one of the most eco-friendly havens on the southern side of the Alps, is far-removed from the hectic pace of the cities. This Dolomite region is a soul-stirring dreamland for any photographer. Some of South Tyrol’s most alluring villages, churches, and castles reside here. Our photography motifs in this region are endless, behind every corner hides a picture perfect postcard.  We will guide you to the best spots to take stunning images of majestic valleys, vertical walls, sheer cliffs, and sun-drenched mountain scapes. Our tour ends on October 12th at Venice’s Marco Polo airport and we will say goodbye until next time!

Claudia is originally from Mainz, Germany and for two decades has been enjoying life in Venice, Florida. Her artistic photographs are reflections of the natural world around her, especially landscapes and wildlife. She periodically employs diverse techniques to enhance and augment her photographs, such as artistic filters, high dynamic range imaging, and creative pre-and post processing effects.

Her images have been featured in various magazines, newspapers, and online publications. She is an experienced instructor and photography guide, and loves to share her enthusiasm for photography and travel. Her educational background encompasses an Associate of Science Degree in Graphic Design, a Bachelor of Business, and a Master of Liberal Arts with a concentration in English and Multimedia; Claudia taught Graphic Design Technology at the State College of Florida for a number of years.

Moderate with some uphill hikes and longer walks so good footwear needed. Otherwise most locations and viewpoints are close to where we will be parked. There may be some walking on uneven terrain which could be wet and muddy, and some locations are hilly. Good sturdy, water resistant boots are advised.

The weather can be quite cold this time of year, and the mornings and evenings colder, so bring warm clothes. Ideally layers that you can remove or put on as we’ll be shooting before sunrise and after sunset, in the dark, when it will be colder. Bring wet weather gear and a raincover for your camera equipment.
