The Azores are renowned for their dramatic and vivid landscapes. The captivating blend of vibrant flora, verdant valleys, sparkling lakes, volcanoes, striking coastline, and varied marine life has created a paradise for photographers.
Our primary destination for this Azores photo tour will be São Miguel, the largest island in the Portuguese Azores. On this island, there will be a plethora of subjects to capture, catering to the diverse interests of every photographer.
Being of volcanic origin, the Azores are home to numerous crater lakes and calderas, such as Sete Cidades on São Miguel Island. The contrasting colors of the Blue and Green Lakes within the same caldera offer a striking visual effect, especially during different times of the day.
The rugged beaches and lakes of the Azores are best photographed from above. Here you can truly capture the wild beauty of the tall cliffs, natural rock formations, sea arches and all the crater lakes.
On our photo tour we will photograph a lot of this majestic scenery from some great elevated viewpoints, which are easy to get to.
Not everything has to be photographed from above though. We will also explore the coastline for opportunities to capture waves crashing against the rocky beaches, or the sunset colors reflected in still rock pools at low tide with majestic towering sea stacks in the distance.
The islands are home to numerous waterfalls cascading down lush green hills. Some notable waterfalls include Salto do Prego and Ribeira dos Caldeirões on São Miguel. These provide the perfect opportunity to practice the art of freezing or blurring water.
The Azores is blessed with all the best and most dramatic geological features of the world. It’s almost as if Mother Nature decided to create a little place all for herself, or at least for us photographers!
Join us for a fun-filled week of photography.
