Vietnam Photography Tours

Shoot golden rice terraces at sunrise, photograph Red Zao villagers in their vibrant traditional dress mid-morning, and work the organised chaos of a street market in afternoon light. After dark, lantern-lit alleyways and neon-soaked city streets await. Nowhere else puts ancient hill tribe culture and humming modern cities quite so close together — and the people in between make every frame worth taking.

Vietnam Photography Tour and Adventure

Vietnam rewards those who look closely. This photography tour moves beyond the tourist trail and into the country’s living, breathing heart — the chaos and color of Hanoi’s morning markets, the quiet dignity of Red Zao villages in Tà Phìn, the gold-drenched terraces of Mù Cang Chải at harvest, the mist rising off Van Long Wetlands at first light. Each day is shaped around light, story, and access that most travellers never find. You’ll photograph people, not performances — and come home with images that mean something. Whether you’re picking up a camera seriously for the first time or refining a practised eye, this is Vietnam as it rarely gets seen.

What to photograph on our Vietnam Photography Tours

HANOI, VIETNAM - CIRCA APRIL 2019: A vibrant night view of the bustling intersection near Hoan Kiem Lake, with light trails from vehicles surrounding the illuminated Avalon building and iconic Hanoi landmarks. This lively area showcases Hanoi’s dynamic nightlife and urban energy.
Hanoi

Few cities reward a camera like Hanoi. The Old Quarter's 36 streets are a living archive — narrow lanes stacked with color, street vendors threading through motorbike traffic, and decades of daily life playing out in the open. Early mornings are magical: locals practise tai chi beside Hoan Kiem Lake as the mist lifts, and the markets are already in full swing before most tourists stir. Beyond the bustle, French colonial architecture and crumbling temple walls offer quieter, more contemplative shots. Hanoi is equal parts chaos and grace, and learning to find both is the perfect way to begin.

HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM - CIRCA SEPTEMBER 2014: Fishing boat in Halong Bay, Vietnam at sunset.
Halong Bay

Halong Bay is one of those places that looks almost too beautiful to be real — and that's exactly the challenge. Thousands of limestone karsts rise from jade-green water in every direction, shrouded in morning mist and shifting light. The key is getting up early: dawn on the bay, before the tour boats wake, offers some of the most otherworldly conditions you'll ever shoot in. We'll explore hidden lagoons and floating fishing villages by kayak, putting you close to the water and the people who live on it. From wide dramatic seascapes to intimate portraits of fishermen heading out at first light, Halong rewards patience and presence in equal measure.

SAPA, VIETNAM - CIRCA SEPTEMBER 2014: Young woman from the Red Dao minority on the rice fields in Ta Phin Village near Sapa, north Vietnam.
Red Zao People

Tucked into the mountains outside Sapa, Tà Phìn is home to the Red Zao — one of Vietnam's most visually striking ethnic communities. The women are immediately recognizable by their vivid red headdresses and intricately embroidered clothing, a tradition passed down through generations and worn with quiet everyday pride. This isn't a cultural performance put on for visitors; it's simply life here, which makes the photography all the more meaningful. We'll spend genuine time with local families, photographing daily rhythms — women dyeing cloth with indigo, children playing in the lanes between wooden houses, elders going about their morning routines.

SAPA, VIETNAM - CIRCA SEPTEMBER 2014: View of typical rice paddy landscape in Sapa, north Vietnam.
Rice Terraces

If there's one image that defines northern Vietnam, it's the terraced rice fields of Mù Cang Chải. Carved into the mountainsides by the Hmong people over centuries, these cascading paddies stretch as far as the eye can see — and in harvest season, they turn a deep, luminous gold that photographers travel across the world to capture. The light here is extraordinary: early morning fog fills the valleys below while the upper terraces catch the first warm rays of sunrise, creating layers of color and depth that are almost impossible to shoot badly. Mù Cang Chải is the kind of place that stops you mid-sentence — and keeps you reaching for your camera long after you think you're done.
