Learn how to make the most of your camera settings to capture sharp, dynamic images of birds in flight and Florida’s incredible wildlife. Southwest Florida is home to hundreds of resident and migratory bird species, as well as thousands of alligators—making it a paradise for nature photographers. This one-on-one workshop is scheduled during the peak nesting and courtship season, when wildlife activity is at its best.
Designed for photographers seeking individualized instruction, this private session offers focused, hands-on learning tailored to your skill level and creative goals.
What you’ll learn:
- How to set up and adjust your camera for fast-moving wildlife and birds in flight
- Techniques for using light, background, and composition to create striking images
- How to anticipate animal behavior and capture decisive moments
- Best practices for lens selection, focusing modes, and shooting techniques
- Field workflow and tips for improving image sharpness and consistency
We’ll meet in the morning at a selected birding location in Sarasota County (the exact site will depend on bird activity, nesting behavior, and access). After photographing together for 2–3 hours, we’ll spend an additional hour reviewing your images on screen, discussing composition, exposure, and opportunities for improvement.
This workshop is offered exclusively as a private one-on-one experience for personalized guidance and maximum shooting time.

Relatively easy but good footwear needed. Most locations and viewpoints are close to where we will be parked. There may be some walking on uneven terrain which could be wet and muddy, and some locations are hilly.
Closest airports are Tampa, Sarasota, or Fort Myers.
Otherwise you can fly into Orlando Airport or Miami Airport.
The weather can be quite warm this time of year, but the mornings and evenings chilly, so bring some warm clothes. Ideally layers that you can remove or put on. Bring wet weather gear and a raincover for your camera equipment.
