Traveling to a paradise on earth doesn’t necessarily require a long, cumbersome, or treacherous journey. Mother Nature has created a land full of natural beauty, ready to be explored in the blue immensity of the Atlantic Ocean: the Azores. This group of 9 unique islands, also known as the Hawaii of Europe, with unspoiled landscapes lie only 1500 km off the coast of Portugal.

Sao Miguel is the largest island in the Portuguese Azores archipelago and our focus on this photographic journey. It is known for its volcanic scenery, spectacular coastlines, magnificent flora and rich marine life. During this 5 day photography tour we will capture majestic mountains, spectacular cascading waterfalls, sweeping cliffs, white sandy beaches and tiny fishing settlements which make this island a photographer’s team. We will photograph this sea-life paradise rich with an unending flow of marine life like blue whales, bottlenose dolphins, and Risso’s dolphins aboard an ecologically responsible boat tour.

In addition to guiding you to the best sights of the Island, we offer photographic tuition; you will learn different techniques to photograph lakes, mountains, waterfalls, and wildlife and return home with some outstanding images. Tuition will cover composition, shutter speeds, working with filters, apertures, and understanding histograms. We will also have post-processing sessions to review your images. All levels of photography are catered for; whether you are a hobby enthusiast, an I-phone shooter, or a seasoned professional looking for new photographic opportunities. The Azores is an oasis of breathtaking scenery. Over the 5 days, you can expect a fun packed tour and workshop, great company, and delicious food in the beautiful surroundings of the Azores.

Relatively easy but good footwear needed. Most locations and viewpoints are close to where we will be parked. There may be some walking on uneven terrain which could be wet and muddy, and some locations are hilly. Good sturdy, water resistant boots are advised.

Best place to fly to is Ponta Delgada Airport. If coming from the UK or within Europe, check for flights at Easyjet or Wizz Air or Ryanair.

You can get information and public transport options from Ponta Delgada Airport here.

The weather can be quite cold this time of year, and the mornings and evenings colder, so warm clothes. Ideally layers that you can remove or put on as we’ll be shooting before sunrise and after sunset, in the dark, when it will be colder. Bring wet weather gear and a raincover for your camera equipment.
